The Portuguese capital has achieved a new distinction by being named Best Culinary Destination in Europe for the first time, surpassing iconic cities such as Paris, London, Florence, and Barcelona. The recognition was announced during the World Culinary Awards gala, which took place on October 1st in Dubai.

This award highlights the gastronomic diversity Lisbon offers, ranging from traditional Portuguese dishes to fine dining experiences and international cuisine. According to the World Culinary Awards organization, this breadth of culinary options was a key factor in selecting the capital.

Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, celebrated the award, emphasizing the blend of tradition and innovation found in the city’s gastronomy: “It is a great pride to see Lisbon recognized in this way, rewarding the work of professionals who keep our culinary identity alive.”

The World Culinary Awards, part of the same organization as the prestigious World Travel Awards, aim to promote culinary tourism by recognizing excellence and innovation in the industry. Now in its fifth edition, the event celebrates establishments and professionals that stand out in the culinary field, with winners chosen through public voting.
