Portugal is gearing up for carnival.
Parades in their original format have been announced for many major cities after a long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the Algarve, festivities and floats are confirmed in Portimão, Albufeira and Loulé, among others. Carnival this year falls on February 21; celebrations take place over a long weekend from the 17th to the 22nd.
