The Batalha Monastery will be used as a set, as well as the Convent of Christ in Tomar and a village in Guarda.
Portugal will host recordings of “Damsel,” a Netflix movie that will star Millie Bobby Brown, one of the main stars of “Stranger Things.” This is the same project that the municipality of Tomar had already revealed would be shot in the region in March, when it announced that the production was looking for extras.
According to Agência Lusa, quoted by “Diário de Notícias”, the Batalha Monastery, in Leiria district, will also be one of the places used for the filming. The monument will have part of its spaces closed on May 19 and 20 because of this.
Then the shooting will proceed to Tomar, to the Convent of Christ, and will also be recorded in the village of Sortelha, in Sabugal, district of Guarda. In all, the technical team should have about 250 people. The cast also includes names like Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, and Nick Robinson, among others.
Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, “Damsel” is expected to premiere in 2023 on the streaming platform. This is the medieval fantasy story of Princess Elodie, who believes she is going to marry Prince Henry, but then discovers that she is actually going to be sacrificed in honor of a dragon – which motivates a battle between the two.
