Recognized for being one of the safest countries in the world, a reference in tourism, with a public health system and renowned universities. These are some of the characteristics of Portugal, the country chosen by thousands of Brazilians and other immigrants to live in. Between 2015 and 2021, the Portuguese country was the one that most increased the rate of property sales in the European Union (EU).
Data from the EU Statistics Office (Eurostat), released on Wednesday (13), show that the rate of closed agreements for the negotiation of housing increased by 85% over the period. It is the highest growth among all the countries in the bloc.
On the other hand, Luxembourg, whose Portuguese represent the largest immigrant colony, is the territory that had the least growth in property negotiations between 2015 and 2021, staying at only 7%. According to the Statista platform, a German statistics company, Luxembourg currently has 94,000 immigrants of Portuguese nationality.
Spain leads real estate sales increase in 2021
In 2021, the number of property transactions, when compared to 2020, rose in most EU member states. The increase, according to Eurostat, “comes after a drop in almost all countries in 2020 compared to 2019.” The data on the number of deals carried out for the sale of real estate is available for 16 countries in the bloc.
The largest increases recorded in 2021, when compared with the previous year, were in Spain (39.3%), Bulgaria (39.0%), Hungary (22.9%) and Ireland (22.2%). Only two countries registered a decrease in the number of transactions performed: the Netherlands (-3.2%) and Luxembourg (-0.8%).
