International traffic related to the search for a home in Portugal grew +29% in the 2nd quarter of the year, compared to the same period the previous year. In addition to American traffic, which increases exponentially, also stands out the increase in French traffic in the same period of analysis (+84%). The data are from Imovirtual, the portal with the largest number of properties in Portugal, which has just released a study on the subject, based on data available on the platform.

The foreign users who most searched for homes in Portugal in the 2nd quarter are, in this order, from Brazil (28% of total international traffic), France (14%), the United States (9%), Switzerland (9%) and the United Kingdom (8%). Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2021, there is a general increase in demand from the main countries analyzed, especially Belgium (+25%), the United Kingdom (+19%), and Angola (+16%). There is only a decrease in the case of Switzerland (-17%) and Germany (-2%).

“This is a sign of the return of foreign investment in our real estate supply. Although the sector has always been dynamic, we felt some drop in foreign interest associated with the limitations of movement between countries that were a conditioning factor. However, these growth figures compared to last year show a moment of complete recovery and a future with multiple opportunities to enhance business” explains Ricardo Feferbaum, General Manager of Imovirtual.

Compared to the 1st quarter of 2022, the 2nd quarter of this year shows a slight decrease in demand (-12%). There is a general drop in interest in the national market from the countries that most look for a house in Portugal, with the exception of the significant growth coming from the United States (+64%).

According to the Imovirtual study, most foreigners looking for a house in Portugal are interested in buying a house in Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Leiria and Aveiro.
