The prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Portugal are preparing to close on Monday in London a comprehensive political agreement to regulate UK-Portugal bilateral relations after Brexit

The prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Portugal are preparing to close on Monday in London a global political agreement to regulate bilateral UK-Portuguese relations after the UK’s exit from the European Union.

“A cap agreement is being prepared between the two countries, with particular focus on the areas of defense, foreign policy, science, higher education, and climate change, especially the oceans,” said Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho at the end of a visit to the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, where he accompanied the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The signing of this agreement is only dependent on the recovery of the health condition of António Costa, who had to cancel his presence at the celebrations of June 10 in Braga.

However, executive source said that the leader of the Portuguese executive “continues to record a very favorable recovery” and the most likely scenario is that he can already travel to London on Sunday, where he will arrive in the early evening.

Moreover, today, the President of the Republic, before journalists, said that António Costa will travel to London on Sunday “to meet with the British Prime Minister on Monday.

The meeting with Boris Johnson, at number 10 Downing Street, is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Monday.

Still regarding the bilateral agreement in preparation, the foreign minister indicated that cooperation in the field of trade is a matter regulated by Brexit, the agreement on the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union.

Therefore, the Portuguese-British trade relations can be deepened, as long as they respect the agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom.
